In the Electronics Industry, Reliability Is Everything

In the electronics sector, ensuring the quality of every board or module is non-negotiable — it’s the line between a reliable product and a costly field failure. To guarantee performance and consistency, two critical testing stages are implemented:

ICT (In-Circuit Test)

This is the first line of defense. Before powering up the unit, ICT verifies that every component is correctly placed, soldered, and electrically connected. Think of it as a complete audit: are all resistors, ICs, and solder joints properly in place?

FT (Functional Test)

Once the assembly passes ICT, the Functional Test validates real-world performance. The unit is powered on and operated as it would be in the hands of the end user — measuring signals, outputs, and system responses. If a product fails here, it never leaves the factory floor.

The Role of the Screw Compressor – The Hidden Engine

Behind the scenes, the screw compressor is the backbone that keeps testing operations running flawlessly. Its reliability directly impacts production uptime and test accuracy.

  1. Automation of Test Fixtures

Pneumatic actuators used to lift, clamp, or position PCBs depend on a steady, clean air supply.

Without stable compressed air, electrical contacts may fail, causing false rejects or incomplete tests.

  1. Air Quality as a Critical Standard

Compressed air must be oil-free, moisture-free, and particle-free — even the smallest contamination can damage sensitive circuit boards or affect measurement integrity.

That’s why filters, dryers, and Class 0 compressors are integrated as part of a unified air management system.

  1. Support for Auxiliary Processes

Compressed air is also used for:

Dust removal and cleaning of boards before or after testing.

Cooling components during stress or burn-in tests.

Powering pneumatic tools in maintenance and calibration areas.

  1. Guaranteed Uptime

A redundant N+1 configuration (two compressors in parallel with backup capacity) ensures that ICT and FT lines never go offline.

This level of reliability is essential in high-stakes sectors like automotive, medical devices, and telecommunications, where every minute of downtime represents significant financial loss.

  1. Energy Efficiency

Variable Speed Drive (VSD) compressors dynamically adjust air output to match real-time demand.

This not only reduces operational costs but also supports the plant’s energy efficiency and sustainability strategy.

In short, while invisible on the production floor, the screw compressor is the silent enabler of precision, uptime, and process integrity in every electronics manufacturing plant.
