Planned Obsolescence
Recently, it became public knowledge that two major technology brands were fined in Europe for planned obsolescence, and that U.S. authorities opened investigations into the deliberate performance throttling of their products. While many users had long suspected these practices, the legal actions and rulings confirmed the existence of unethical design strategies. Over time, similar patterns have appeared—one way or another—across multiple industries and markets.
Unfortunately, the air compressor industry is not exempt from this reality. There are products intentionally engineered for early replacement, designed with limited service life due to poor material quality, low mechanical resistance, or inefficient system design. This is planned obsolescence in practice.
It is common to find compressors in the market that require major overhauls after only three to four years of operation, repairs that are typically costly and operationally disruptive. In many cases, the compressor head itself begins to fail, making full replacement more cost-effective than repair. These units effectively become disposable compressors, generating higher medium- and long-term costs and unnecessary capital losses.
The CBS XV Series stands in direct contrast to this model. It represents a legacy of long-term performance, robustness, and efficiency. Engineered and manufactured in Mexico using premium-grade materials and advanced engineering, the CBS XV is designed for extended service life. More than four decades of market leadership validate this positioning.
On average, depending on operating conditions, a CBS XV compressor may require major maintenance only every 15 to 18 years, after which it can reliably deliver another 15 years or more of efficient operation. These units are fully serviceable at a reasonable cost and can continue operating without performance compromise. In compliance with official regulations, the air receiver tank must be replaced every seven years, as mandated by NOM-020-STPS-2011.
It is also worth highlighting that the CBS XV series is induction-cast using electrical processes, not coal-fired methods. This results in superior metallurgical quality while significantly reducing environmental impact. In addition, these compressors are equipped with NEMA Premium® efficiency motors, delivering best-in-class energy performance and long-term operating cost savings.
Our core commitment is honesty, reliability, and customer satisfaction. That is why we design and manufacture equipment that sets a benchmark for safety, durability, and engineering excellence, delivering real long-term value rather than short-term replacement cycles.
